You can book and pay privately without a referral. The full session fee is payable, and no rebate is claimed.
Claim using your invoice
Some private health policies include psychology. Please check your level of cover directly with your fund. After payment, submit your invoice to your fund to claim any eligible benefit.

With a valid referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan from a GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician, Medicare can rebate $101.55 for a 50+ minute session. With a gap payment of $138.45.
Eligible clients can access up to 10 individual mental health treatment services per calendar year.

Clients under 25 with an eligible Complex Neurodevelopmental Condition treatment and management plan may receive a $101.55 rebate per eligible psychology treatment session.
Up to 20 allied health treatment services are available per lifetime, usually allocated in courses of up to 10. A valid treatment plan and referral are required.
Self-managed or plan-managed funding
NDIS funding may be used where psychology is an appropriate support within the participant’s plan. Self-managed and plan-managed funding are accepted; NDIA-managed funding is not accepted.

Sometimes, the assessment process may identify additional complexities that require further assessment to develop a clear and comprehensive understanding. If this occurs, any changes to the assessment plan or cost will always be discussed with you beforehand.

Medicare rebates
Eligible clients under 25 may receive a Medicare rebate of $101.55 per eligible 50+ minute assessment session under the Complex Neurodevelopmental Conditions pathway. A valid referral from a paediatrician or psychiatrist is required. A referral may cover up to four allied health assessment sessions before review. Medicare rebates apply only to eligible sessions and do not cover the full assessment package.
Use of NDIS funding for an assessment is considered case by case. The assessment must be appropriate to the participant’s goals and available funding. For plan-managed participants, approval from the plan manager must be obtained before any assessment appointments begin. Please provide the plan manager with the full quote and confirm that all assessment components will be funded. Self-managed participants remain responsible for confirming that the assessment is claimable under their plan.

No. Therapy and assessment can both be accessed privately without a referral. A valid eligible referral must be in place before the relevant appointment if you intend to claim a Medicare rebate.

Possibly. Psychology cover varies between funds and policies, so please check directly with your insurer. You will receive an invoice after payment that you can submit to your fund. You cannot claim both Medicare and private health for the same appointment. -
Different appointments may use different funding pathways where each service is eligible, but the same appointment cannot be claimed from Medicare, private health and/or the NDIS more than once.

Depending on the referral question, your package may include a parent intake interview, clinical interviews, questionnaires, cognitive, academic and/or neurodevelopmental testing, assessment materials, scoring and interpretation, liaison where relevant, a comprehensive written report with recommendations, and a feedback appointment. -
Yes. If you would like to use a payment plan, do not purchase the full package online. Book “Assessment Package Session 1: Telehealth Parent Interview (Parent Only)” for the Monday of the week you would like to begin. Elyse will coordinate the payment plan and remaining appointments with you. Full payment is required before results and the final report are released.

The first appointment explores what has been challenging, relevant background and developmental information, what you or your young person would like to change, and an initial treatment plan. Depending on age and preference, it may be parent-only or include the young person. In-clinic appointments are recommended when the child or teen will attend.

Parent involvement is discussed at the beginning of therapy and tailored to the young person’s age, needs and preferences. The aim is to keep parents meaningfully involved while protecting the young person’s confidential therapeutic space and growing autonomy. Limits to confidentiality, including safety concerns, are explained clearly. -
Yes. Therapy is available in clinic and by telehealth. Telehealth is particularly well suited to parent-only appointments and young people who are comfortable engaging online. In-person sessions are held at Thrive Wellness Chelsea Heights, Suite 40/93 Wells Road, Chelsea Heights.

Therapy fees are payable on the day of the appointment. Assessment payment timing depends on whether the package is purchased upfront or through an agreed payment plan. Any outstanding assessment balance must be paid before results and the report are released.
